AAA knows driving! Our programs strive to create the best, safest drivers on the road. 

We offer a variety of options to support new drivers on their journey. Take one of our comprehensive teen driver education courses at our AAA Birmingham office.

All lessons begin and end at our AAA Birmingham office and are taught by a state-certified instructor. Lessons may only start once a student's account is paid in full and all necessary documentation has been received.

    AAA Driver Education strives to create the best, safest drivers.

    • State-certified, AAA instructors train students
    • Classroom instruction is 24 hours of interactive learning using the AAA How to Drive curriculum
    • Our classroom instruction encourages discussion and features application exercises distributed throughout the course to enhance learning effectiveness and maintain student engagement
    • Students receive a student workbook to use during class
    • Classroom size is limited to small groups

    AAA Driver Education offers two on-road instruction options for new drivers taking Segment 1. This instruction is in addition to the 24-hour classroom session.

    • Basic Package
      • Six hours of driving instruction plus four hours of observation
      • Meets state minimum
    • Premium Package
      • Eight hours of driving instruction plus four hours of observation
      • Recommended

AAA How to Drive Online Supplemental Course

AAA's How to Drive online delivers the rules and essential elements of safe driving in an interactive and innovative way. This supplemental 25-hour course aims to ensure that safe driving habits are developed and maintained for life. This online course is supplemental and does not meet Michigan state requirements or approval for driver education.

AAA SmartStart Parent Course

StartSmart is an online webinar for parents of teens who are – or soon will be learning to drive. This two-hour online course prepares parents to navigate their teen's learning-to-drive experience. This course demonstrates how to reinforce what your teen is learning in driver education and how to maximize the practice driving that you'll do with them. AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety research is highlighted throughout this course.
